With both of these "recipes" you never follow the instruction on the box. Well, just the baking times and temperatures.
If you are trying to cut calories, mix one box of cake mix with a can of diet soda and 2 egg whites. Bake as indicated on box. That's it! You can get creative with the cake and soda combinations. I make a lemon cake with Diet Mountain Dew. Mmmm. Or chocolate cake with Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper. The possibilities are endless.
If calories aren't an issue but you want an amazing cake with one box cake mix, 4 large egg whites, 1 cup warm water and one package of Dream Whip. Bake as directed. Dream Whip can be found near the pudding and geletain mix in the grocery store. The box looks like this:

This cake is my favorite. It works well with ANY cake mix. Really. ANY! The cake is a little more dense and rich than if you follow the box directions.
I don't make my own icing, but I do whip it with my hand mixer before I use it. Adding a litle air to the icing makes it easier to spread and you can cover more cake. And, I like to add food color to the icing to give it a personal flair. I'm going to gather pics of cakes I made an update this post this weekend.
Are there any tips you do to make your cakes a little more special?

OMG how did you come up with those ideas? I just bake cakes according to the directions on the box and am very second guessy when I deviate from directions. Your ideas sound AMAZING!
And, the marriage license. I feel you on that one. We just need to pay and we'll have it done!! Major surreal moment!
